Kuala Lumpur, May 28 : Malaysians of Indian origin have been asked to apply for India''s scholarships under the Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC).
India has awarded about 100 scholarships to applicants of Indian origin from 40 countries.
The Head of Global Organization of People of Indian Origin''s (Gopio) Education Council Dr. Aruna Gopinath lamented that Malaysians are not even aware about the basic eligibility criteria about the scholarships.
She said the objective of offering these scholarships is to encourage students to study courses other than medicine and dentistry in India, the Star reports.
Dr. Gopinath informed that the SPTM graduates were ineligible for these scholarships, as they did not have physics as one of their subjects.
"To avoid this problem, we recommend students take A-Levels, an Indian pre-university course or ensure their STPM subjects include physics, mathematics and chemistry," she said.
The courses for which scholarships are awarded include engineering, liberal arts, business, journalism, hotel management, sciences offered by 60 participating universities in India.
