Green University of Bangladesh arranged a discussion meeting followed by a cultural program in the seminar room of the university on 27 March at 3pm to observe the Independence Day-2012. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Dr. Anwarullah Chowdhury presided over the meeting while prominent lawyer Barrister Rafique-Ul Huq and the Chairman of GUB Board of Trustees Mr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Mamun were present in the program as the chief guest and the special guest respectively.
The chief guest Barrister Rafique-Ul Huq said that even after long 40 years of our independence, we have not achieved the desired goal of our Independence for which the common people of this country participated in the Liberation War. He emphasized the importance of the present generation to know about the glorious history of our Liberation War. Special Guest Mr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Mamun said that the neighboring countries like China, India, Thailand and Malaysia have advanced so fast but we are lagging behind. Today is the time to advance our nation with new dynamism by criticizing ourselves to realize our ultimate objectives of Independence. He expects that the students of the country can play a vital role in this regard. Professor Dr. Anwarullah Chowdhury said that, the liberation war of Bangladesh was not a matter of an accident. The liberation war was the result of many socio-economic, political struggle and movements like language movement of 1952, the 6 point movement of 1966 and the mass upsurge of 1969. He opined that the liberation war was as an epic of tears and blood. He also added that no nation of the world had sacrificed so much of blood for their independence. He advised all the students of GUB to devote themselves to build the nation and to work for a happy, prosperous Bangladesh.
After the discussion, the students participated in the events like patriotic songs and recitation etc. Distinguished guests including Barrister Zafarullah Chowdhury, Deans and Chairmen from various Faculties and Departments, teachers, officials and a large number of students were also present on the occasion.
