Dartmouth's Cost of Attendance, sometimes referred to as your cost of education, is comprised of charges billed directly to you by Dartmouth as well as out-of-pocket costs that go along with attending school.
Direct Expenses
The directly-billed charges include tuition, room, board and fees. You will be billed for these charges six weeks before each term starts. While room and board costs can vary, the basic per-term direct charges budgeted for the 2011-12 academic year are:
* Tuition - $13,912
* Room - $2,465
* Board - $1,658*
* Fees - $420*
* - First-Year students have three additional charges budgeted as part of the cost of attendance
* $110 for meals during orientation week
* $20 for Class Dues
* $150 Student Document Fee
* Total Direct Charges for Three Terms - $55,365 ($55,645 for First-Year Students)
Indirect Expenses
There are of course expenses related to going to school that will not appear on the college bill. We budget an average of $1,091 per term will be needed to cover the costs of books, supplies, laundry and other miscellaneous living expenses. Depending on where you live, there may be significant transportation costs that need to be factored in as well.
It is important to remember that these indirect costs will not appear on the college bill. Students should plan to arrive on campus with sufficient funds to cover the costs of books and incidental expenses.
If you live a distance away from campus, a travel allowance will be included in your cost of attendance. This travel allowance is another indirect cost that will not appear on your student bill. Students and families must arrange and pay for all travel to and from Dartmouth College
