<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The final year students
of the program of B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of the
Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Green University
of Bangladesh took part in a day-long study tour to the Ghorashal Thermal Power
Station on 15 June 2015. The prime objective of this tour was to help the
students to know about power plant and its operational, maintenance and
management. Twenty five (25) students including four (4) female students led by
Prof. Dr. Engr. Muhibul Haque Bhuyan, Chairperson of EEE Department participated
in the tour. Besides, two (2) other faculty members of the EEE Department,
Engr. Robiul Hossain Md. Raffi, Lecturer and Engr. Md. Badruddoja Majumder,
Lecturer also joined with the participating students. They guided the students
during the day-long study tour. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Ghorashal Thermal Power
Station is the biggest power plant in Bangladesh located at Polash, Narshingdi
with installed generation capacity of 950 MW. It has 6 power generating units
with power generation capacity ranging from 55 MW to 210 MW per unit. All the
generators are run by steam turbines. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The tour comprised
three parts. At first, the students went to observe the power generation units
where the Engineers of the power station briefly explained the working
principle of the thermal power station and then demonstrated its operation. One
unit of the generator was out of order right now. So, both generator and
turbines were open and students were able to observe all the opened parts and
have huge practical idea about various parts of alternator and steam turbine. After
that they visited the electrical control room and then they observed the
mechanical control room and boiler section. At last, they observed the sub-station.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">At electrical control
room,<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="_GoBack"></a> the students observed many control panels, such as,
control panels for 230 kV, 132 kV, 33 kV and 11 kV bus bars, switch gears,
isolator control knobs, breaker operation knob, ammeter, voltmeter, frequency
meter, power factor meter etc. The sub-station can be controlled properly from
the control room.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Then the students went
to the mechanical control room where they observed how the mechanical
parameters like boiler’s flow rate, steam flow to the turbine, flame etc. is
controlled. Then they observed the boiler, water treatment plant, steam turbines,
governor, cooling system, economizer, super-heater, re-heater and other
mechanical components of the power plant. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">At last, the students observed
the sub-station that is consist of several electrical equipment like power,
auxiliary transformers and distribution transformers, protection devices like
isolators, circuit breakers, HV cables, PTs, CTs, earthing and lightning arresters.
The generation voltage is around 11-15 kV, which is converted to 132 kV or 230 kV
for transmission. In sub-station, there are parallel bus bar systems available.
In this sub-station, three types of breakers, such as, vacuum, SF6 and
air circuit breakers, are available. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">At the end of the day,
students came back to Dhaka with practical experiences of power plant through
this study tour. This was a very effective tour for both teachers and students.
Their theoretical knowledge is supplemented with this study tour. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

In the early morning hours, construction workers were still preparing the Inner Quadrangle for the ceremonies. The great arch at the western end had been backed with panels of red and white cloth to form an alcove where dignitaries would sit.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The 2,000 seats set up in the three-acre Quad soon proved insufficient for the growing crowd. By midmorning, people were streaming across fields on foot. At half past 10, the special train from San Francisco arrived on the temporary spur that had been used during construction. As a faculty member recalled, “Hope was in every heart, and the presiding spirit of freedom prompted us to dare greatly.”</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Jane and Leland Stanford established the university in memory of their only child, Leland Jr., who died of typhoid fever at 15. Within weeks of his 1884 death, the Stanfords determined that, because they no longer could do anything for their own child, they would use their wealth to do something for “other people’s” children. </div><br />
<h2>The Undergraduate Program</h2>The objective of Stanford University, Jane and Leland Stanford wrote in their Founding Grant in 1885, is "to qualify its students for personal success, and direct usefulness in life; And its purposes, to promote the public welfare by exercising an influence in behalf of humanity and civilization, teaching the blessings of liberty regulated by law, and inculcating love and reverence for the great principles of government as derived from the inalienable rights of man to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."<br />
With an approximate 5.9 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio, Stanford emphasizes close interaction with faculty. Stanford offers three undergraduate degrees – Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Sciences (B.S.), and Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (B.A.S.) – each designed to achieve balance between depth of knowledge acquired through specialization and breadth of knowledge gained through exploration. Undergraduates complete at least 180 units, including requirements for the major, writing and rhetoric requirements, one year of a foreign language and courses in the following areas:<br />
<ul><li><strong>Introduction to the Humanities</strong>: One course each quarter of the freshman year </li>
<li><strong>Disciplinary Breadth</strong>: Five courses required, at least one in engineering and applied sciences, humanities, mathematics, natural sciences and social sciences</li>
<li><strong>Education for Citizenship</strong>: Two courses in at least two of the following subject areas—ethical reasoning, the global community, American cultures and gender studies</li>
</ul>Of the seven schools at Stanford, three award undergraduate degrees: Humanities and Sciences, Earth Sciences and Engineering. Students who wish to pursue in depth more than one field may double major—that is, complete the requirements for majors in two fields—or minor in a second field. Students also can pursue an individually designed major. Visit <a href="http://ual.stanford.edu/">http://ual.stanford.edu/</a>.<br />
<br />
<h2>Graduate Studies </h2>In Stanford’s first year, 1891, 39 men and 12 women from 19 states registered in graduate standing, representing one of the first opportunities for graduate study on the West Coast. Today, 8,796 students in 91 departments and programs are pursuing post-baccalaureate degrees in all seven of Stanford’s schools: <a href="http://www.gsb.stanford.edu/">Business</a>, <a href="http://pangea.stanford.edu/">Earth Sciences</a>, <a href="http://ed.stanford.edu/">Education</a>, <a href="http://engineering.stanford.edu/">Engineering</a>, <a href="http://humsci.stanford.edu/">Humanities and Sciences</a>, <a href="http://www.law.stanford.edu/">Law</a> and <a href="http://www.med.stanford.edu/">Medicine</a>. Exchange programs with the University of California-Berkeley and the University of California-San Francisco enable graduate students to take courses not offered at Stanford.<br />
About 85 percent of Stanford graduate students receive financial assistance, aside from loans, from Stanford or external sources. About 56 percent of graduate students live on campus.<br />

It was named after the College’s first benefactor, the young minister John Harvard of Charlestown, who upon his death in 1638 left his library and half his estate to the institution. A statue of John Harvard stands today in front of University Hall in Harvard Yard, and is perhaps the University’s best known landmark. <br />
<br />
Harvard University has 12 degree-granting Schools in addition to the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. The University has grown from nine students with a single master to an enrollment of more than 20,000 degree candidates including undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. There are more than 360,000 living <a href="http://www.alumni.harvard.edu/">alumni</a> in the U.S. and over 190 other countries.</div><h2></h2><h4 class="compact">Established in 1636</h4><h4 class="compact" style="text-align: justify;">Faculty: <span style="font-weight: normal;">About 2,100 faculty members and more than 10,000 academic appointments in affiliated teaching hospitals</span></h4><h4 class="compact">Students</h4>Harvard College – About 6,700<br />

More than 60 percent of Harvard College students receive scholarship aid, and the average grant this year is $40,000. <br />
Since 2007, Harvard’s investment in financial aid has climbed by more than 70 percent, from $96.6 million to $166 million per year.<br />
During the 2012-2013 academic year, students from families with incomes below $65,000, and with assets typical for that income level, will generally pay nothing toward the cost of attending Harvard College. Families with incomes between $65,000 and $150,000 will contribute from 0 to 10 percent of income, depending on individual circumstances. Significant financial aid also is available for families above those income ranges.<br />
Harvard College launched a “<a href="http://npc.fas.harvard.edu/">net price calculator</a>” into which applicants and their families can enter their financial data to estimate the net price they will be expected to pay for a year at Harvard. Please use the calculator to estimate the net cost of attendance.<br />
The total 2011-2012 cost of attending Harvard College without financial aid is $36,305 for tuition and $52,652 for tuition, room, board and fees combined.<br />
